Hydraulic transmissions
Hydraulic transmission consists of a hydraulic pump and hydraulic motors. Often they are combined in a hydraulic transmission unit. Engine gives its power to hydraulic pump, this pressurizes the hydraulic oil and this pressurized oil is sent to drive the hydraulic motor(s).
The advantage of hydraulic transmission (gearbox without gears) is that it can transmit power steplessly. It can make the tractor move with different speeds without changing engine rpm. It is possible to reduce engine rpm on a light load and consequently reduce engine wear and fuel consumption.
Often the PTO shaft drive is mechanical but transmission is hydraulical, so this can be used to rotate the PTO shaft at a constant speed and at the same time adjust tractor moving speed as needed.
